What is Meditation:- Misunderstanding
It was 8 years ago when I first heard about the word meditation (dhyana). Without understanding and knowing meditation I start to do (practice) meditation, taking some particular posture (asana). Even I tried hard and fast posture without knowing Yoga Asana properly. I start to do meditation for 15-20 minutes. Most of the time I used to play background music and focus on the music. Yes, I feel some kind of emptiness and happy but it was not always the same. Somedays I feel happy and some days I feel frustrated. It may happen to many meditation practitioners. Why did this happen? You may be thinking. It needs you to understand what meditation is in deeply.I have found many people who practice meditation without knowing what really meditation and yoga means. Two of them are you and me and feel that meditation is not what enlightened masters talk about or meditation practitioner talks about. We say Meditation is not for me.
When I started to find out why I can’t meditate properly, the conclusion arises, I was to sticky about the result after meditating. My meditation was to get something. I was completely result-oriented rather than enjoying the moment. I was a meditation doer rather than understanding who I am. The second was, I was not aware of the proper technique. If you don’t use proper technique, may our mind chatter more rather being calm? And the last one was no proper guidance. If you want to practice meditation in the right way and feel the state of meditation in a deep you need to take initiation from the guru or meditation instructor.
What is Meditation?
In my simple language, Meditation is a state, where we can feel relax, calm, light, peaceful, loveful, compassion, blissful, etc. All these are the outcome of being on the state meditation but meditation is far more than these. Meditation in Sanskrit is Yoga: Union of body, mind, and soul.
The main purpose of meditation is to discover yourself, Knowing the whole existence (universe) and being free from the birth-death cycle. All the enlightened masters are talking about why humans suffer and how all suffering can be eliminated from life and can be live freedom life. Meditation is nothing but awareness of the whole existence of every moment in our life. Conscious about the pain, misery, happy and accept it. Neither pain is your nor happiness is yours.
Osho: Meditation is just to be, not doing anything- no action, no thought, no emotion.
Lord Buddha: Meditation is awareness.
Lord Shiva gave to his partner Devi Parvati 112 techniques of meditation. There are 112 ways or methods we can attain enlightenment. While practice, you should find out the method which suits for you. Choose the method which works on you. The same method may work on others and may not work on you. So, it will be easy to practice if you take advice or guidance from an expert or guru. Firstly, you should work on yourself. Know what kinds of person you are. Osho has written in his book “The Book of Secrets” about all 112 techniques. You can check [why meditation and meditation for beginner]
